Booking
- Check on GOV.UK that you need to take the test.
- Book online through the official booking service at least 3 days ahead. GOV.UK shows the current fee.
- Choose a test centre; there are centres across the UK.
- Ask for any special arrangements, such as help accessing the centre, when you book.
Be wary of other sites offering to book for you. The official route is linked from GOV.UK.
On the day
- Bring the original ID you booked with, not a copy or a screenshot.
- Your photo is taken at the centre.
- Family members, including children, can't come into the test with you.
- If you don't have the right ID, you may not be allowed to take the test and may not get a refund.
Your result
If you pass, you get a unique reference number to use in your citizenship or settlement application. If you don't pass, you can book again and pay the fee again.
