What the Life in the UK Test covers
In short
In short: The Life in the UK Test checks your knowledge of British values, history, traditions and everyday life. It has **24 questions**, you have **45 minutes**, and you need **75% or more** to pass, which means at least 18 correct answers. The questions are based on the official handbook.
Last reviewed: . Written and checked against official sources by ChowChow Labs, an independent study website. This is general information, not legal or immigration advice.
Who takes it
Most people applying for British citizenship or for settlement (indefinite leave to remain) need to pass it. GOV.UK lists who doesn't need to, including people under 18, people aged 65 or over, and people with a long-term physical or mental condition who provide the required evidence.
Rules change. Always check the current requirements on GOV.UK before you book or apply.
The format
- 24 questions on a computer at a test centre.
- 45 minutes in total.
- Pass mark: 75% or more.
- Some questions ask you to choose one answer; others ask you to choose two.
Our mock exams follow the same length, timing and pass mark so you can practise under similar conditions. They are our own questions, not real test questions.
What to study
Study the current official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents. Our Study by Topic pages summarise six areas: values and community, the UK and its nations, early history, modern history, culture and traditions, and government and law.
Common questions
Are the questions in this site the real test questions?
No. Every question here was written independently for practice. The real test questions aren't published.
If I pass a mock in this site, will I pass the test?
Not necessarily. A practice result is a study aid, not a prediction or an official result.
